Whether housebreaking
a new puppy or dealing with a stressed-out kitty, most pet owners
will eventually come upon the dreaded "yellow spot" on the carpet.
To prevent future accidents brought on by the lingering smell of
urine, follow these steps:
- Soak up as much urine as
possible as quickly as possible with a cloth or paper towel.
Put the towel over the spot and press down with your hand. Applying
pressure to the wet area helps press the liquid out of the carpet
layers and pad. Repeat this process with clean, dry towels until
you have dried the area as much as possible.
- Clean the carpet area with
a specially formulated cleaner. There are three types from which
to choose. Detergent cleaning products break up the urine and
help lift the stain. Products with enzymes attack the urine's
chemical makeup and help eliminate the residual odor. There
are even products with special bacteria that "eat" the stain.
Whichever you choose, be sure to follow label directions.
