Relief from fleas and ticks is just a few months away, but for now it’s important that pet owners continue to treat for these disease-carrying pests.
The most important part of controlling fleas and ticks is prevention. Today’s spot-on treatments provide an extremely high level of protection and maximum convenience for the pet owner. Feeders Supply carries a variety of spot-on products including Frontline Plus.
Sometimes, however, things don’t go the way they’re planned. Should a flea be accidentally transported into the house and begin to propagate, you may find that your home has fleas. There are several steps you should take to do away with these pests.
First, treat your pet if he or she is infested. For quick “knock down” use a flea shampoo, sponge-on or spray. Today’s products are fast and very effective when you follow label directions.
Second, vacuum your home, including pet areas, carpets and furniture to remove flea eggs. Don’t forget to clean under the furniture as well as around the baseboards and other likely flea egg hiding places. Be sure to dispose of the vacuum bag when you’re done to make sure you’ve moved all the eggs completely out of the house.
The third step is to kill the fleas, larvae and eggs that remain. This can be accomplished using one or more of the following: foggers, sprays and/or powders. Always be sure to carefully follow label directions when treating for fleas and use a product with an Insect Growth Regular (IGR) for best results. IGRs prevent hatching larvae from developing into biting adults, helping you make sure the infestation is gone for good.
Feeders Supply carries the area’s widest selection of flea control products. If your pet or home has fleas, our trained staff can make product recommendations that will make short work of those nasty pests.
DANGER! Never use a flea control product made for dogs on your cat. Cats’ systems are very sensitive, and chemicals that are safe for canines can kill your feline pet. Always use a flea product made especially for cats.
